The IMCW Family Program invites you to join our 5th annual Family Retreat. This summer retreat is our favorite event of the year. Gift your family quality time together to relax and reconnect in supportive community amidst the beautiful Shenandoah foothills.
This retreat is open to parents, grandparents, and guardians with children age 5-13 years old, who are interested in cultivating deeper presence, joy, resilience, and connection in everyday family life. Older teens age 14-19 may register along with their families to serve as Assistant Mindful Leaders (MLs) and can earn community service hours. Assistant MLs will spend time with their families, a portion of each day assisting our experienced adult MLs with children break-out groups, and time amongst teen peers.
Both beginning and experienced mindfulness practitioners are welcome. The retreat balances engaged activities with free time. There will be time for collective family practice as well as time for parents and children to break-out into groups and engage with peers. During break-outs, children are divided by age and there will be a separate tween program. Adults will have opportunities to practice meditation together and engage in facilitated adult discussion groups.
Dharma activities include skits, games, songs, art, mindful movement, nature activities, a campfire, meditation, and dharma talks. During free time, optional activities may include mindful sports, drumming, nature activities, Qi Gong, and parent workshops.
Please arrive between 4-6 p.m. on Friday, June 28 for check-in, followed by dinner from 6-7 p.m., orientation and the opening ceremony at 7:45 p.m.. The retreat ends on Tuesday, July 2 at 12:30 p.m. followed by lunch.
