SUMMARY:IMCW Spring Retreat
DESCRIPTION:With Deborah Ratner-Helzer and Devin Berry\n\nResting in Stillness\, Opening the Heart\nIn a culture shaped by pressure and hurry\, stillness becomes a radical act.\nOn this seven-night silent retreat in the Insight and Lovingkindness tradition\, we step out of habit and into presence\, cultivating steady attention and a tender heart.\nThrough mindfulness of the body and the grounding support of mettā\, we learn to meet experience with clarity\, patience\, and compassion. As the mind settles\, we begin to see more clearly what leads to ease and what leads to suffering and how to respond with greater care. \nThe retreat includes daily meditation instruction\, Dharma talks\, practice meetings\, and periods of sitting and walking meditation. \nNo prior meditation experience is required: only a sincere willingness to pause\, listen\, and begin again. \nRetreat fees: only cover direct expenses for this event\, such as room\, meals\, and administrative costs. \nDana offering: In keeping with the Buddhist tradition\, the teachers and retreat managers receive no payment. Donations offered by students at the end of the retreat are appreciated and support the teachers and retreat managers in continuing to make the teachings available to all. Dana offerings are tax-deductible. \nRegister Here

SUMMARY:Taking Refuge: Cultivating Clarity & Compassion

SUMMARY:Deepening Into The Mystery
DESCRIPTION:With Stan Eisenstein\n\nWeekend Silent Retreat: Deepening Into the Mystery\nThis is a hybrid retreat meeting in person at Seven Oaks and online via Zoom. \nThe deadline for in-person registration is May 8\, 2026.\nThe deadline for online registration is May 20\, 2026.\nThe rhythms of Spring invite us\, to tune into the deeper currents of life\, to sense our deeper spiritual roots\, and to experience unity. We tend to identify ourselves with our separateness: our personalities\, our achievements or failures\, our beliefs\, our worldly selves. Yet there is something more fundamental about ourselves that we can explore\, both in our minds and in our bodies\, in our beings. As we cultivate a letting go of clinging to a worldly identity\, we can begin to explore who we are at a deeper level. This shift in identity has the capacity to bring a great deal of freedom\, peace\, and joy. \nThrough dharma talks\, group meetings with the teacher\, meditation instruction\, personal meditation\, and gentle movement practices\, you will be guided toward a sense of who we are more fundamental than our experience of our personalities\, our ego\, or our worldly selves.

SUMMARY:Awakening The Pure Heart
DESCRIPTION:With Marjolein Janssen and Kim Allen\n\nThis retreat focuses on cultivating insight and the awakening of the heart. Inspired by a traditional Buddhist teaching that compares the mind to a cloth that can be cleansed and brightened\, we will explore practical ways of recognizing and releasing unhelpful mental and emotional patterns. As these patterns soften\, qualities such as confidence\, clarity\, kindness\, and the four brahmavihāras naturally begin to reveal themselves. \nThroughout the retreat\, we will alternate between sitting and walking meditation\, allowing practice to deepen in a steady\, grounded rhythm. The days will be shaped by meditation periods\, dharma talks\, and meetings with the teachers to support your unfolding understanding. \nRetreatants are expected to attend the full retreat and to maintain silence for the duration of our time together. This supportive container encourages mindfulness to grow more continuous and intimate. \nThis retreat is appropriate for anyone interested in mindfulness or vipassanā meditation\, whether you are new to silent retreat or deepening your practice. All are welcome. Together\, we will create an environment of sincerity\, gentleness\, and curiosity as we explore the natural freedom that emerges when the heart is allowed to shine.

SUMMARY:Sacred Conversations Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Seven Oaks Retreat Center is proud to welcome The Center for Wild Spirituality’s Sacred Conversations Retreat. \nThe Sacred Conversation Retreat is four days of contemplative presence with the wild ones. \nLed by Victoria Loorz—author of Church of the Wild and founder of the Center for Wild Spirituality—this intimate experience invites you to remember how to listen for the call of the Holy Wild and rekindle kinship with the living world. \nThrough eco-spiritual practices from Seminary of the Wild Earth\, we gather to remember the reality of unbroken relationship with one another and the more-than-human community that hosts us. We will wander the ridges and meadows\, sit beneath ancient oaks\, engage in conversation with soul and river and owl and spirit. We will journal and share with one another\, sing\, dance\, drum and be drummed\, and remember the stories of our belonging. We will honor our encounters with ceremony. \nWhat to Expect: \n\nContemplative Practices: Nature-based invitations to listen to the teachings of the forest and the water.\nSacred Ritual: Fire ceremonies in a shared circle\, star-gazing without light pollution\, and rituals that honor the living Earth.\nSpacious Wandering: Dedicated time to follow the “quiet nudge” of your own soul across the 120-acre sanctuary.\nNourishing Hospitality: Locally grown and prepared meals with both private and shared accommodations available.\n\nCost ranges from $1650 to $1900 depending on choice of room. \nRegister Here

SUMMARY:It's Like This: Resting in the Heart of What Is - A BIPOC Retreat
DESCRIPTION:With Leslie Booker and Rashid Hughes \nLeaning into the heart practices is a radical act of defiance in the face of separation and violence. Fear is rampant – leading to an influx of rash decisions that are directly impacting our communities\, bodies\, mental health and hearts. With the world being in a constant state of uncertainty\, we can trust that the heart can hold all that we are feeling. \nAs practitioners who are Black\, Indigenous\, and People of color (including Asian\, Pacific Islander\, Middle Eastern\, and/or Latinx people of color)\, practicing with equanimity and the rest of the heart practices of the Brahmaviharas\, can be a salve\, deeply restoring and healing the soul. \nIn this 4-day residential retreat\, we will use silence not as a weapon\, but as a place of refuge to tap into the wisdom of our hearts. We’ll spend time as a collective in nature\, in restorative silence\, genuine connection and living together in Beloved Community. \nRegister Here

SUMMARY:Nothing Outside Relationship
DESCRIPTION:With Kristin Barker and Dechen Ellen McSweeney \nIn a world marked by war\, fracturing politics\, Earth under siege\, and our pervasive yet largely unnamed loneliness\, we can feel adrift\, separated and alienated from that which we are thoroughly entangled in. \nYet through the vulnerability they reveal\, our conflicts\, loneliness\, and even passive assault on the living world contain the seeds of their own healing. This retreat is an invitation to plant and nourish seeds of authentic connection—to step out of the pace and armor of daily life long enough to sense what we long for\, and what we already belong to. \nThis retreat grows out of the Downtown Dharma community in Washington\, D.C. Supported by the ancient Blue Ridge Mountains\, the living Dharma\, and the blessing of practicing together\, we move into the field of the relational. Internally and externally\, we will cultivate the skills to connect with ourselves\, one another\, and the ecological kin who know these lands as their home. \nJoin Dharma teachers Kristin Barker and Dechen Ellen McSweeney for this weekend retreat at Seven Oaks Retreat Center where we will undertake a mix of practices: meditation\, dialogue\, sharing in groups\, and conversation with the land. \nRegister Here

SUMMARY:Sangha: The Rhythm of Stillness and Service
DESCRIPTION:With Sharon Shelton\, Trisha Stotler and Alison Cohen \nOffered by the MMTCP Alumni Association for MMTCP graduates only.   \nThe Buddha named spiritual friendship\, kalyāṇamitta\, as essential to the path. Not a nice extra\, but a vital condition for steadiness\, discernment\, and courage. When we practice together\, we remember what matters. \nThe MMTCP Alumni Association invites you to an in-person gathering to practice\, rest\, and learn in the spirit of friendship and shared practice. \nThis week will weave silence\, meditation\, and Dharma with meaningful connection. You can expect daily sitting and walking practice in noble silence\, Dharma talks and reflections\, skill-building workshops\, gentle movement\, warm evening social time\, and space to offer sessions as service and skill-building. \nThis gathering is for those who feel both the call to stillness and the call to serve – however you define that. Stillness is not withdrawal. It is training. It is the steadiness that lets us see clearly\, love wisely\, and respond rather than react. And service flows naturally from a heart that has been resourced by practice and held by community. \nIf you have been longing to be held by practice again\, this is for you. If you have been teaching and need replenishment\, this is for you. If you want your service to come from steadiness rather than strain\, this is for you. \nWe will practice. We will learn. We will rest. We will come together to remember the power of walking the path. \nSample daily rhythm (to be  finalized closer to the gathering date): \nMorning (all in noble silence): \n\nBreakfast\nYogi jobs\nSitting and walking meditation (noble silence)\nMovement (gentle yoga or qigong)\n\nAfternoon (silence period ends): \n\nLunch\nWorkshops and skill-building Session 1\nWorkshops and skill-building Session 2\n\nEvening: \n\nDinner\nSocial offering (campfire or meditation hall)\nReturn to noble silence before bed\n\nRegister Here

SUMMARY:IMCW Fall Retreat
DESCRIPTION:With Dhammadipa and Jeff Rosenberg\nFully Living The Life You Have\nMany of us long for a deeper intimacy with life\, hoping for a life that will be more profound or more moving or simply different. Dhamma practice responds directly to this kind of dissatisfaction. By coming to sit and walk among a community of folks with similar aspirations\, we are supported to develop balance and stability\, enabling us to be with all of the fullness of a human life.  And further\, we can find and cultivate the motivation and courage to change our ways of responding to life\, our life as it is now. This is the discovery of the Path of acceptance and change. Without avoiding or backing away from life’s unfolding\, we meet experience moment-by-moment and develop greater clarity about what it is and ways to respond skillfully\, reducing dissatisfaction and cultivating joy. \nThe thoroughness of this exploration of and response to life is ‘fully living.’ In this way\, we allow mindfulness and patient\, persistent investigation to open doors to the depth and breadth of the many facets of life\, leading to understanding\, insight\, and an appreciation of our unique unfolding. Qualities such as contentment\, curiosity\, compassion\, gratitude\, and equanimity are the fruits of this practice. Come join us and experience the support of sangha on this retreat. The weekend option will provide an overview and model for this with opportunity to practice — the weeklong will take the dive deeper and harvest what ripens. \nYou may register for the whole week or weekend only (Oct. 9-11).
