Third Annual Family Retreat 2017

When : July 13-16, 2017

We invite you to join us for the third annual IMCW Family Retreat. This engaging retreat is open to parents, grandparents, and guardians to attend with their children/ grandchildren. It is appropriate for children age 5 to 13, and both beginning and experienced meditators are welcome.

The retreat will include time for family activities as well as free time. Dharma activities include skits, games, songs, art, mindful movement, a campfire, meditation, and dharma talks. There will be time for collective family practice as well as time for parents and children to have their separate activities.

Children will be divided into age-appropriate groups, including a separate tween program, and adults will have blocks of time to practice meditation and engage in facilitated parent discussion groups. During free time, optional activities will be offered, which may include mindful sports, drumming, Qi Gong, and parent workshops.

There are a few openings for adolescents age 14-20 to register along with their families and serve as “Mindful Leader assistants” during the retreat to help lead children break-out groups.

Please arrive between 4-6 p.m. on Thursday for check-in, followed by dinner from 6-7 p.m., orientation and the opening ceremony at 7:45 p.m. The retreat ends Sunday at 12:30 p.m. followed by lunch.

Parent Testimonials:

“This retreat is a rare opportunity to unplug from our tech-saturated lives and connect with what is true in our family relationships… This is one of the few retreats available in the country focused on families with school-age kids.”

~ The Fagan-Smith family

“Exactly what I needed… remarkably engaging for kids… poetry in motion.”

“The teachers are incredible. They made the dharma so accessible to children.  And their own presence, honesty, vulnerability, & heart is what made this retreat so good. They create and hold the space for us all.”

“We were surprised at how much we connected as a family … My daughter, who is 8, asked when it was over, ‘can we go again next year?’.”

“The whole retreat was such an enriching experience. The teachers were the best part!  Each brings his and her own gifts & unique style that has a profound impact on teaching how to apply mindfulness to everyday life.“
